On the morning of November 30, 2019, the Academy of Statistics and Interdisciplinary Sciences of East China Normal University was inaugurated. Tong Shijun, Secretary of the Party committee of East China Normal University, Ma Zhiming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yang Shanlin, academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering, Guo Jianhua, vice president of Northeast Normal University, etc. jointly unveiled the research institute.
In order to further promote the coordinated development of multi-disciplines, the Academy of Statistics and Interdisciplinary Sciences of East China Normal University was officially inaugurated on the morning of November 30, 2019, and the 2019 cross science academic frontier seminar was held at the same time.
The establishment of the Academy of Statistics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (ASIS) of East China Normal University aims to develop statistics and related interdisciplinary subjects, innovate and develop the frontier theories and methods of interdisciplinary subjects, and promote the interdisciplinary integration and development of other disciplines in East China Normal University, such as statistics, economics, business administration, public management, library and information.
ASIS will take the national and local strategic needs as the main discipline to carry out its frontier research.

Tong Shijun said in his speech that East China Normal University established the “Academy of Statistics and Interdisciplinary Sciences”, aiming to promote the development of statistics discipline, further deepen the interdisciplinary integration of statistics, economics, management and other disciplines; deepen the contact and cooperation with the government, enterprises, academic research institutions, and promote the cooperation between government, industry, and university. Academician Ma Zhiming
Academician Ma Zhiming's report topic is “the intersection of probability and statistics with other disciplines”. He takes Alpha Go algorithm design as the starting point, and points out that the Monte Carlo tree search (MCTS) algorithm is closely related to probability and statistics, and is also the basis of many other deep learning and reinforcement learning.Ma Zhiming revealed the deep internal relationship between Huawei 5G technology and martingale theory in probability statistics. He pointed out that “the thoughts, methods and applications of probability statistics are penetrating into many fields of science and technology and social fields in today's human society. Probability, statistics and other disciplines, especially other branches of mathematics, have crossed and infiltrated each other, making extremely rich achievements, and also forming some new branches and growing points of disciplines, which have injected new vitality into the development of probability and statistics and other disciplines.”
Academician Yang Shanlin
Academician Yang Shanlin condensed the major national needs into scientific research direction, described the specific process and remarkable characteristics of intelligent manufacturing engineering management of high-end equipment, and pointed out the technical support system of Boeing aircraft development and the scientific problems encountered in the development of Chinese aero engine. He said that all kinds of things in the world are interrelated and will not develop regularly according to the division of human disciplines. When scientific research is carried out, it is necessary to use the deep cross integration of multi-disciplinary fields.
Academician Wang Shouyang
Academician Wang Shouyang talked about his thoughts on interdisciplinary research and development. He believed that the success of scientific research cannot be separated from comprehensive interdisciplinary research. By analyzing four cases of “the first revolution of Wall Street, Norden E. Huang and empirical mode decomposition, domestic value added and global value chain and iceberg theory of business model, he pointed out that the research and development of interdisciplinary is very important and should be closely related to major issues, because it is the easiest way and cradle for the birth of new disciplines, new fields and new directions. The research and development of interdisciplinary need the support of the whole society, and people from different disciplines need to work together.
During the conference, 16 experts and scholars from universities and research institutions made invited talk, and discussed the latest development trend of interdisciplinary science in combination with the current frontier of different academic fields and hot issues of national economy.
As a relatively independent scientific research entity, the newly established research institute is affiliated with the Faculty of Economics and Management of East China Normal University. East China Normal University has a full range of economics and management disciplines. Finance, statistics, economics, business administration, public management and other disciplines have developed rapidly with distinctive characteristics, and the strength and influence of those disciplines have continued to increase. In September 2017, statistics entered the first-class discipline construction. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation, statistics was rated class A, ranking third in China. In addition, public management, applied economics and business administration were rated class B, forming a good situation of coordinated development of economics and management disciplines.
