On the afternoon of May 30th, the school-level academic report hosted by the ASIS of the Faculty of Economics and Management, East China Normal University was successfully held at the Science Building A508 of Zhongshan North Road Campus. Academician Ma Zhiming from the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences gave an academic report entitled Probability and Statistics Methods of Big Data Analysis.  More than 40 teachers and students participated in this report. Professor Zhou Yong, Executive Deputy Director of the Faculty of Economics and Management and Dean of the ASIS, chaired this report.

The ideas, methods and applications of probability statistics are penetrating into many scientific and technological fields and social fields today. The application of probability statistical methods is becoming more and more extensive in modern science and technology as well as social and economic fields. It intersects with other disciplines and other branches of mathematics, and has achieved extremely rich results, demonstrating the infinite charm of probability statistics. In this context, Academician Ma Zhiming highlighted Probability Statistics in Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning, Probability methods in 5G Polarization Code Theory, Machine Learning and Stochastic Differential Equations, Probability Statistics in DNA Analysis, Generating Adversarial Networks and Monge Optimal Transmission and so on.

Then the teachers and students had a lively discussion with Academician Ma about the report, especially on the implicit transmission phenomenon in the Optimal Transport Theory, the unexplainability of neural networks, distributed grouping and high-dimensional data processing. This report deepened the teachers’ and students' understanding of probability statistics, and received extremely high participation and discussion from them.
